history 0010 How to be a Realist

history 0010 How to be a Realist

There are two kinds of things, one is the things with attitudes and will, the other is the things without attitudes.

A realist should distinguish attitude-driving things from those without attitude-driving. For the ways to treat them effectively are different from each other.

If a realist solves problems related to the things without attitudes, he/she has to obey the principles of those things. He/she can only look for solutions in those principles. There are no criteria of rationality of things, which have no attitudes for they are natural.

If a realist solves problems related to the things with attitudes, first, he/she should distinguish the phenomena that are not affected by attitudes from those that are affected by attitudes. A realist cannot obey the “principles” of the phenomena of the things affected by attitudes. He/she has to measure the attitudes whether they are proper, if yes, accept, if no, reject.

If reverse, anybody can not be a real realist, and problems can not be solved successfully in reality.

0009 The General Guides of My Thinking

0009 The General Guides of My Thinking

The below are the general guides of my thinking. Some of them are only assumptions. They can only make me to feel there are fewer conflicts to reality.

1. Meaningless of nature

2. Life has its meaning only because life is a system existing conditionally

3. If mind exists in some species, the purpose of mind, function of mind, duty of mind, is to help to satisfy the conditions of existing of life.

4. The kinds of duties of mind are to help species to survive in environment and to make happiness, and to be predominant to others of the same species.

5. It is a purpose of mind to make happiness because of the properties of the problem solving procedure of mind, and it is a purpose of mind to help the body survive because of the relationship between body and mind, and the value of mind. Mind has to coordinate both of happiness and body life.

6. For the purpose of existing, and to exist happily and predominantly, we have to solve the problems of the relationships among mind, body, different persons, and nature. Mind, body, other people and nature are related factors of the purpose. We can only solve the problems via discovering the facts and their principles of mind, body, different people, nature and their relationships. We cannot solve problems only by our will unconditionally.

7. How to solve problems? Under the facts and their principles, to adjust our needs and its related factors to reach the goal of existing and to exist happily and predominantly. We have to know the proper needs of us and all of the related factors. We have to know the natural principles of factors, and the proper or rational attitudes, or will, or direction of unnatural factors.

8. How to get the complete facts of related factors? Different scientific methods for different factors that have different properties.

9. How do the natural or unnatural properties of factors affect the proper needs? Those are principles of their relationships.

10. Why do we research things? For we are not free, we have to exist under the principles of ourselves and to exist in the relationships with other things, and things have their own principles.

history 08 Ten Years Test

history 08 Ten Years Test

What have I been doing since 1996 when I supposed the structure of mind and gained the perception of the origin of society?

I spent ten years to test my perception of the origin of society. I tried to test whether it was true that the origin of society was to get predominance of surviving via trade and cooperation.

When I tried different careers, I was always laughed at in the beginning, and then others said I was changing to another person. I knew why and glad to be discovered I was changing. I found it was really very difficult to change from career to career if the careers were for different properties of human needs. I had to be another person if I change to another career with different properties. What I found was that career abilities were "determined" by ones needs, or wishes, not "determined" by will, attitudes or orders from others. The set of needs of human could not be change, but the main needs of someone were different from person to person. Although the main needs could be changed, it was one of the most difficult things to change one's main needs. Then it can make it possible or effective for seeking better life to live in proper society.

I had ever worked as a teacher (chemical engineering, computer), assistant education program manager, consulter of careers, seller (textile), purchaser (devices of computer, textile), manager (textile). Meanwhile I had tried to understand people engaging in other careers. I worked in different industries and in different positions to test my theory of the origin of society. I hadn’t got any opposite experience nor found any opposite example of others. I.e. the ten years tested my theory right though I didn’t know whether it was true before other unknown evidences.

My experience and observation told me that

people who were money thirsty and were proud of their money could make more money or more profit than those who could enjoy money, though they had less ability of social fairness.

people who were love thirsty and were proud of their fame could create more art works than those who were not interested in love, though they had less ability of social fairness, politics, security, etc.

people who were security thirsty and were proud of their security could be more offensive and more capable of security than those who had less sense of security, though they had less ability of making money, art, etc.

people who suffered from social problems and were proud of their social achievements could be more sensitive of politics, law or militia than those who didn’t suffer from the same problems, though they had less ability in personal life.

The “experiment” answered the question why different people pursued different values. It’s not the people’s will which determined those goals, but their needs or the things lacked in their minds that drove them to work hard in some area, and made them to gain considerable career ability. I.e. the career ability could not be got only from learning or being asked by wills from others. It developed on a natural base, the needs and the functions of mind.

history 07 the Origin of Society

history 07 the Origin of Society

from career freedom to market economy

This essay does not discuss the conditions of how to run a market smoothly, but figure out that normal economy can not run or develop without career freedom.

the conditions of career ability and the kinds of society

Why does human have to live in a way of society? Why doesn’t human live in a way like a tiger in forest? Cause of civilization? Cause of the wisdom of human? “For man is by nature a political animal” ?

The essay of how to rebuild a mind gave me some clues to understand the origin of society.

For the purpose of psychological research, I suppose that all of minds have the same basic model but at the different states of model, though they live in the same environment. Then I derive from the assumption that there are conditions of converting for minds to convert from state to state. If conditions satisfied, minds can convert from person to person.

What are those conditions then? How to satisfy them?

My experience and the observation of others tell me many about these questions. Please visit the website to know more about my experience. http://philosophyofhumanslife.blogspot.com/2006/10/history-06-rebuilding-mind.html

I learned from my experiences and from my observations:

1. Although different people live in the same environment, and different people can receive the same information from the environment, information can not be noticed and be accepted equally. For different people have different needs, wishes and attitudes. The needs and wishes drive people and attitudes affect people to select related facts to be known and to be accepted to satisfy the needs or wishes.

2. People eagerly seek those related facts, and the related facts are sensitive to them. When people receive those facts, they accept them with pleasure. It means those facts are driven by needs and wishes, approved by attitudes, and will be active in mind.

3. If facts can not enter mind, they can not work in mind. Those facts not related to ones needs or wishes can not be noticed and be accepted into mind.

4. The needs and wishes inspire some imagination and raw ability.

5. The combination of facts accepted by mind and the imagination and raw ability can lead to the development of skills and abilities.

6. When people work for their own needs and wishes, they will not feel tired easily, for they are driven by their needs and wishes. If they are forced to stop their work, they will feel upset. The possibility of meeting their needs and wishes will fuel their passion, i.e. to make them work passionately. Orders in socialism nation can also drive people to work hard, but with fears, not with hope of meeting their own needs. They are two different properties of driving forces, one is to meet needs and wishes, the other is to escape from fears.

7. The people working under their own needs and wishes can get more knowledge, skills, abilities and get more qualified skills than those work under threats. I.e., more professional. If contest, the free people will be more competitive.

8. If people would be ordered to do any work as their masters want, they would even not become professional at all.

9. Professional work would lead to wonderful products.

10. But it is so difficult and ineffective to rebuild a mind.

11. If someone wants to enjoy a life with all of products professionally produced, he/she has to live in some relationship with others to avoid rebuilding his/her own mind. Such relationship is trade or cooperation. Trade is for exchanging products. Cooperation is for one product to be produced.

12. If career freedom and free trade are respected, the members can meet the needs of human at an advanced stage, i.e. man can live with high standard in society than living alone like a tiger, and the social freedom can lead to the real satisfying while socialism society can only meet the basic needs of life with fears, or can not meet the needs of human really. Socialism society can not reach the same advanced stage either, for it is against the mechanism of social, and against the origin of society.

The most important points of above are that a wonderful mind can not be developed by others’ will, it can only developed by the forces in ones own mind, and that the social way can give man predominant surviving ability to those not living in a society. Society if necessary for human to survive, and personal freedom in society is necessary too.

history 06 Rebuilding Mind

history 06 Rebuilding Mind

This one is not only a history of the developing of the theory of mind, but also a history of me.

My parents had treated me wrongly since I was born. It made me to live in hell. I lacked of love (It made me vulnerable.). I was treated rudely and was ordered with threatening (It made me to live in a world full of fear.).

Then, I grew up with daydreams that I would have opportunities to live in a world full of love and without threats. Despite those daydreams, I hadn’t experienced any real love, equality and respecting each other in the world. I lived in two worlds, one was the real world evil as hell, the other was my daydreams. My daydreams gave me the only pleasure in those years. I actually lived on those daydreams. I.e., once the daydreams disappeared, I would die.

One day, I was really shocked very much when I saw a father feeding his child with love and care. In my world, it was only in daydreams, never in real world. My entire system of mind was impacted heavily by the driving force of that fact.

The second event was that someone cheated me and made me to be at a dangerous state. It made me to rethink my daydreams. Whether were there real honesty and love in the world? I had ever gone to church to look for help, but I realize that the Bible could not help me to survive if I had no enough money to buy food, or if I had no enough strength to refuse attacking. And I was trained to be an engineer, it made me to refuse accepting the content of the Bible. I thought it a fiction.

The third one was that my first job (not getting freely) made me to realize that I would never live in a real world like that in my daydreams in my lifetime.

There were the forth one, the fifth one, …

My life was dependent on my daydreams. But those real events led to stronger driving forces in my mind to depress my mind not to be at a daydream state.

In the later two years, I was killed. I was a dead person with no hope but full of pain. Any hope rising in my mind will be depressed by those real events happening to me, for I was a person who admitted and accepted any real fact while refusing any opposite fiction or imagination. Real facts were the only origin of my thoughts.

But I was a researcher. I noticed and recorded everything happening to me. And I paused the old direction of my researching on mind, started another direction to research mind. I had to admit that I had to solve the problems happening to me first, and then I could say to others that I got valuable results of mind researching.

Since I was a realist, I had to think that the functions of mind were to help creatures surviving predominantly. It’s the direction how I understood mind and its meaning. Then I drew conclusions about mind that a proper mind should react on real world to solve any problem successfully. A mind full of imagination and daydreams which could never occur in real world was not a proper one. And a proper mind should not be a love thirsty one for it would make the person vulnerable.

My experiences made me to get some features or properties of mind as follows:

1. If my attitudes would rather tend to admit and accept real facts than admit and accept those coming from wishes, the driving forces of real events would be stronger than those of wishes (needs and wishes led to daydreams, imagination)

2. Mind was a system driven by forces of needs, wishes, imaginations, daydreams, attitudes, estimating, real facts and real events happening to someone

3. For mind, life equaled to needs, wishes, attitudes, the imagination of meeting the needs and wishes, and the real experience of meeting the needs and wishes

4. For a realist, the driving forces of real events or facts were predominant to those of imagination under needs or wishes

5. If a realist said he/she was confident when basing on real events or real facts, he/she was really confident. If basing on imagination, he/she was not really confident, maybe, he/she would be defeated by real events or facts thoroughly, and would say he/she lost his/her “me”

6. The kind of needs, wishes, imaginations, attitudes, daydreams, the experience of meeting the needs and wishes, the events happening really, and values formed personality

7. Any mind of realists had to be tested in real world if it wanted to be confident in real world

8. If the driving forces of a realist’s mind opposite to those of real events or real facts, the mind had to be rebuilt basing on real events and removing anything opposite to real world

9. It was very important to get complete experiences in real world. No proper person without proper experiences in real world. A proper mind should be built with needs, wishes, and imagination basing on real events. The real events as base of mind should be proper. It was one of the most difficult things for somebody to get proper real events by oneself alone. One had to be helped by others or by chance to get proper events. The improper events from others happening to mind could only be adjusted by the proper events from others. I.e., under such circumstance, one could not be adjusted by oneself.

10. I was driven by forces and attitudes. If my attitudes were right, and if I wanted to rebuild my mind, I could not ask or order my mind to be rebuilt by my will even if I hated me. I could only rebuild my mind by adding or reducing the driving forces of mind to change mind indirectly

11. The properties of the driving forces and the strength of the driving forces, were the most important factors developing or resolving a mind and its characteristics. They were more difficult to be solved than to solve the confronting opinions accepted under pressure

12. It was better to rebuild a mind than to seeking help from religion for we had to live in the real world. To satisfy the need or wishes in mind was not always a good way. We had to erase the needs completely if we wanted to solve the problem completely. I.e., not to satisfy, but to change the mind to another one which could adapt much to real world to get satisfied in real world

The mechanism, process and the conditions of rebuilding a mind:

For realists,

To get opposite driving forces impacting on mind via real but opposite events. The opposite driving forces used to be stronger than those in mind to depress the existing mind.

The depressed mind dieing with severe mental pain

To survive from the pain (avoid suicide)

To inspire another need which is stronger than that existing

Getting more real events to drive mind

Controlling mind to be opened or closed, adding new forces by accepting, refusing new forces by refusing or punishing the origin, adding the same force existing in mind to reinforce the existing part or all of mind, carefully selecting the driving forces and the attitudes to rebuild a new mind

New mind with new needs, new wishes, new imagination, new attitudes, new values, new driving forces

A new mind growing, i.e., being rebuilt

The mechanism of religious converting is similar to the converting of realists though their attitudes and predominant forces are different.

Applications:

1. Using the mechanism of the collapsing of a mind to develop a new mind, to rebuild a mind, or to change a mind by getting new driving forces to depress those old ones, or by changing the balance of driving forces, or to protect mind

2. To understand the essence of mind including some principles of mind

history 05 the Existing of Mind

history 05 the Existing of Mind

One of the wishes of people is that life equals to mind, and mind can part from body, and mind will never die while body die.

There are three possible assumptions of the existing of mind:

1. supposing mind exists independent on brain

2. supposing mind exists dependent on brain, and will forever exist if brain is alive

3. supposing mind exists dependent on brain but mind will not exist if brain is dead or at some states of brain such as coma, sleeping without dream, etc

There are no direct reasons to prove the third assumption, but I found that the third one was the one with the least puzzling for me to understand the phenomena of mind while maybe it was not meeting the wishes of human.

Further more, I found that mind could not be developed when we sleep without dream, or we are at the state of coma, but mind could be recovered from some “memory” and continue developing on the latest stage it was saved, and could be developed again. Then, I try another assumption:

1. mind links to some state of brain

2. if conditions satisfied, the state of brain, which can lead to mind existing, exists. I.e., some state of brain creates mind., if conditions not satisfied, we will feel sleepy, mentally tired, or falling asleep, mind is disappearing at the same time

3. brain can convert from state to state, it means mind can be created and can be eliminated but be saved when brain converts from the state which leads to the existing of mind to the state which leads to the disappearing of mind, if brain comes back to the state which leads to mind existing, mind re-exists

4. mind and brain develop contemporarily in different ways, it means brain can save mind and recover it

I have no direct reasons for this assumption either, but I feel it is better to suppose above than to suppose a mind will never disappear. It makes me to understand the world with less puzzling.

history 04 Religion and Science

history 04 Religion and Science

Then, another question should be asked.

What’ religion then?

We could describe the world both by science and by religion. What are the essential differences between science and religion?

When we were thinking scientifically, we based on the facts in the creative world, those facts coming from the mapping of real world, the mapping of real world accepting the codes coded by organs, organs coding if they were stimulated by the real world and if they were normal. We had to distinguish whether facts were true or false first. We could not accept any facts in the creative world created by needs, wishes, wills, and imaginations, etc. Then, we called the method of thinking was scientific. If we accepted the facts coming for other origins, we didn’t think the conclusions basing on those facts scientific. If we believed in and accepted the facts created by our needs, wishes, or imaginations to understand the world, and to understand the value of our existing, and to try to comfort us by some related methods, we called it religion. Obviously, science and religion confronted originally. There were no ways for them to combine.

There was a field which was very difficult for scientists to engage in research. Those facts were feelings. We had to admit they were true feeling. And those feelings affected mind truly and affected so much on mind. In this field, science lost much to religion. To solve this problem, we had to know the essence of feelings and the value of feelings, then, maybe, we could understand the feelings really.

Note: I call anything I can see, hear, tough, feel, …, in my mind a fact, then I distinguish the facts true or false. The only true facts come from the real world, or the real feeling, or , I can call any phenomenon of human is a true fact including the process of fiction though the content of fiction is false referring to the related real world. the false facts come from any other origin.

history 03 the errors of science

history 03 the errors of science

I realized that science could not be proved directly when I supposed that mind had such a structure. We really lived in an illusory world. I was disappointed. But I still thought science was valuable. The real problem was that we had to change our understanding of science. Scientific results were not got directly and could not be proven directly. They were proven by their applications. If the conclusions from science could lead to the result expected when applied to reality, we could say science was scientific enough, though we could not prove science by the process of scientific researching. We also could think science valuable if science could help us to solve the problems of our lives. The original question of the errors of science? It could not be answered directly, it could only be answered by the applications of science.

history 02 Drawing Conclusions

history 02 Drawing Conclusions

When I was a student, I found that any conclusion was an “if conditions/then conclusions”. There were no true conclusions without true conditions. But we could only see single event, or single object, or single aspect at one time when we observed something, how could we draw an if/then conclusion? There are many books describing the phenomenon. This phenomenon was called genius, talented, insightful, etc. I am not satisfied with such descriptions.

I found when I paid attention to more than one independent phenomena of some object at the same time, if I did repeatedly, I could draw some “if features/then conclusions”. It’s naturally. It means that there are progresses we can not know when we draw conclusions. I.e., if a normal person pays attention to more than one independent phenomena of some object repeatedly, the mind of the person can work and draw conclusions unconsciously, then the person know the conclusions given by his/her mind. Conversely, if one can not pay attention to MORE THAN ONE phenomena/features of some object AT THE SAME TIME, he/she can not draw if/then style of conclusions.

How can we illuminate this phenomenon of mind? My understanding is, that we give conditions to mind consciously, mind draw conclusions unconsciously. Why mind can draw if/then conclusions? I have no answers to this question. But I make a conjecture that, when the same features of the independent phenomena of some object being paid attention to repeatedly at the same time, and some other features being linked to some features, they can stimulate mind repeatedly, and mind gets a stronger impression/result, then it makes mind to feel there is a feature/result relationship. Conclusion is drawn.

If the conjecture is true, is it magical that Newton could find the principles of nature? No. Maybe, Newton worked hard, and his mind was a bit predominant to others’, but the process to find the principles of nature was the same as I mentioned above.

Application:

If the creative world can not part from the mapping of real world easily at the interface between them, and if there are no enough phenomena of some object in the creative world, and if the mind can not paying attention to more than one phenomena of the object at the same time, the mind can not draw any “if features/then conclusions”. It can be helpful to understand the difference between human and animals, the difference among people, the superior ones or the inferior ones.

History 01 the Structure

History 01 the Structure

(Suggested by Wendy, I plan to write something to post to make my theory to be understood easily. I think the history of the developing of the theory of mind would be the most helpful one, for the readers can step my track to get the theory by themselves.

I only research physically normal mind, my theory of mind can not be applied to physically abnormal one.)

I asked me how many errors there were between the knowledge and the reality when we were asked to investigate errors after experiment or after calculation. I was a third grade student at that time in Autumn 1991.

We were asked to investigate the reliability of engineering design in the next years. It also motivated me to answer the question of errors. Were there complete reasons to say science was scientific? Why could our designing react to reality according to scientific theories? How many errors were there during the process of the forming of scientific theories and the process of the application of those theories?

Artificial Intelligence was a hot topic when I was a graduate student from 1993 to 1996. It also motivated me much to study the working mechanism of mind.

I read any book I could get in those years except fictions. The range coved mainly material sciences ( including brain, neuron), mathematics ( including computer science), and psychology. But I did not believe in psychology at that time for I thought it was not precise.

I thought every day about mind, but I got nothing until the summer in 1996. One day, I dreamed. I found I could not distinguish the dream from reality when I was dreaming, i.e., I could only think the circumstance was real during the entire dream. I had to suppose that there would be an “agent” of reality between “me” and the real world. When the “agent” ran, I could not distinguish the illusory world as a mapping of the real world if there were no driving force of reference coming from real world and working on mind. The “agent” was usually driven by real facts coming from real world when we woke, but it could also be driven by some needs of body or of mind, or by other driving forces, and could lead to dreams, or ran wrongly to make people having no capability of distinguishing the illusory facts from the real facts (it was called mental disease). I gave the name of “direct mapping of real world” to the “agent”. It was a breaking through. From then on, a model of mind was formed gradually.

The model of mind at the first time:

Interface: when both sides of the interface combine, the two sides can not be different from each other. If they part, the two sides can be different from each other. It’s the very important function. If normally, the real one is predominant to the mapping one, the mapping one is predominant to the imaginary one, i.e., if combining, the two sides of interface should be the same as the predominant side. If reversed, the mind is abnormal physically or mentally.

The mapping of real circumstance: it’s the only “real” world mind could see, touch, feel and know. If the real world and the mapping of real world combine, we can live in the real world, if they part, and if something active in the mapping of real world, we dream.

The mapping of real body: it’s the only “real” body that mind could control. If we can actually control our body, it means the two sides of the interface, the real body and the mapping of real body, combine.

Imaginary world: it is for imagining. It participates in thinking. It also leads to intelligence and wisdom.

Imaginary controlling: if we design moving of body, it works.

Mind researching mind: where do the facts of mind come from? The mapping of real circumstance can only receive the information of mind indirectly, and what I know in my mind is only known by me, i.e., all of our knowledge of mind is derived from the indirect facts, not directly observed, or comes from our admission and acceptance of that known by one’s own mind. Expression, communication and observation have the same importance when researching mind.

Application:

I will not be puzzled by the phenomena of dream, thinking, imagination, intelligence and wisdom, science, religion, and learning.
